Thank you. So many things resonated. I, too, have been toughened but softened. I’m still early in my chronic illness journey (5 years) but it really has led me back to myself and my roots. I listen to my body so much more. I am kinder (though no way perfect). I’ve also learned that while I may not have much control of my symptoms on a given day, I can control

The story I tell myself about them. My mom always taught me that tomorrow is another day and hold tight to that idea.

Totally hear you. I know and believe I have a lot of influence on my symptoms and part of returning to myself has been prioritizing sleep and baths, being willing to not exercise when my body needs rest, focusing on gratitude for what I do have, having better boundaries around my time, etc. That being said, there are some days when my symptoms seem to roar up in ways I can’t understand (though crazy changes in weather seem to be part of it) and it’s on these days when I remind myself that a bad day doesn’t necessarily mean that my baseline is going to be at a new low:)

Absolutely true Dr Hoffman!! Thank you for sharing that insight!

So well said, Dr Hoffman. Thank you for sharing your experience! I’ll also offer that you might have more influence on your symptoms than you realize…this is where routine and wellbeing activities can be so supportive. I have set myself up to recover well when I’m stretched, as well as to map my capacity on an ongoing basis in order to feel I have more agency day-to-day. It really makes a difference!

Hi. Thank you for this in-depth article that provides many things that resonate with me as well. Grieving and the connection to the physical, among others, but just in general, thank you for the information that connects to so much of who I am, too.

Thank you for naming grief in here too, Jonathan. I knew I missed something specific in there and naming/identifying the beast certainly helps us to begin to process it. 🫶❤️‍🩹
